Travelogue: BB's 19th Birthday to Bangkok 24-09-2014 to 28-09-2014 Day 1

Bangkok Trip Day 1

Finally getting my hands down to blogged about our Bangkok trip which happened 3 months ago on September. Have been planning for this trip for close to 3 months for the birthday boy and finally we are flying off on the 24th of sept. Waited for SIA promotion for September period and our air ticket cost only SGD 216.80 for each person to and fro which includes 30kg baggage as well as meals on board.

I have been researching for places to eat and planning our itinerary for the 5d4n trip. And im so excited when this day finally arrives.

Our flight was initially to be at 12.55pm and touch down at 14.20pm Bangkok's time. But SIA cancelled the flight for this timing and GUESS WHAT we managed to changed it to the earlier flight at 9.40am without any cost cause initially the earlier flight cost $50 extra per pax. HAPPINESS cause we are reaching Bangkok earlier!

Touched down Bangkok's airport at around 11.40am (Bangkok's time). After clearing the immigration and collecting our baggage, the most important thing to do was to get the local SIM card. It cost 299baht for 1 with unlimited access of 3G. The SIM card will be available at any of the telecom stores outside the arrival hall.

Thereafter, we went down to the basement to train to our hotel which is located right opposite MBK at National Stadium bts. We travel mostly by bts for our trip cause Bangkok is famous for its jam. Took the City Line from the airport to Phaya Thai station, thereafter, 2 stops to Siam station and lastly 1 stop to National Stadium station. The journey took about 45mins.

Didnt manage to snap any pictures of our room cause were too excited to head out after putting down our stuffs. Our room was exactly the same in this picture. We book a Superior 1 Queen Bed room for 4 nights which cost only $331.88.

The bed was comfortable and spacious and the room also comes with a sofa. The shower area inside the bathroom is see through from the outside but there will be a sliding door beside the bed to cover it.

We both love everything about this hotel because the location is so good that the bts is located just beside the hotel. McDonald's, 7-11 and MBK is just within 5mins walk. The only downside is there is no dressing table in the room for me to do my make up.

Nearest BTS Station: National Stadium

Our first to do list was to head over to Amari Watergate hotel to get measurements for the boy's tailored shirt.

These waffles from Platinum Fashion Mall was delicious. Crispy at the surface and soft inside. The waffles are served hot as well.

Went over to Alex's Fashion at Amari Watergate hotel to get the boy's tailored shirt done. Alex's Fashion is located at level 3. There are many tailored shops situated in the hotel as well. The reason why we chose Alex's Fashion was because i had read numerous reviews praising them and MOST of their customers are from Singapore. Will post a photo of the outcome on my next post.

After getting the measurements done, we went over to BIG C supermarket which is at pratunam area as well for our grocery shopping. We bought lots of snacks and instant noodles as it is a whole lot cheaper than sg.

Next we head to Chinatown for seafood feast. Chinatown couldnt be accessible by bts so the only option is to cab there. The average amount to cab there will be 200baht. Chinatown is best known for its seafood, birdnest and as well as the local delicacies to bring back to sg.

We settled our seafood feast at T&K seafood. I suggest to get the outside seats as compared to indoor cause i personally felt that the outdoor will be more comfortable and also more clean.

Yeap, so we ordered a bowl of Shark's Fin, Oyster Omelette, Steamed Pomfret, Fried Rice and Tiger Prawns. The portion we ordered were all small but it is definitely enough for us 2 big eaters.

The Shark's Fin was DELISH and it cost only SGD 12 for that bowl. Just look at the oyster omelette, where can you find oyster omelette in Singapore which consist of more than 10 oysters in it?! A plate of oyster omelette in hawker cost about SGD 4 with only 4 oysters. The tiger prawns were BIG AND JUICY with succulent meat. The meat of the steamed pomfret tasted sweet and smooth and it goes so damn well with the sauce. Fried rice tasted just like any tze-char fried rice.

The total of what we ordered with 2 drinks cost less than SGD 50 and we left the place with happy face and tummy.

After our seafood deast, we head over to Nam Sing to get our birdnest. The stall is just 2mins walk from T&K seafood. Just walk towards your left from T&K and you will be able to locate Nam Sing. We bought 5 birdnest which cost 200baht (SGD 8) each. The birdnest was fresh as they pour it to the bottle from the pot of cooking birdnest when you order it. We regretted not getting more birdnest from them :(

If you wish to get some local delicacies back to Singapore, head over to 林真香 just across the street to get their famous pork floss. The shop is easy to spot because there will be a HUGE pig mascot outside the store.

Took a tuk tuk back to our hotel and then concludes our Day 1 :)
